Caiaphas
The high priest that same year
John 11:49
Caiaphas was the high priest, the leader of the council that wanted Jesus dead. He told them it was better that one man should die than the whole nation. He meant it as cold politics, but John says God used his words as a prophecy: Jesus would die "not for that nation only" (John 11:52), to gather God's children together.
And one of them, named Caiaphas, being the high priest that same year, said unto them, Ye know nothing at all, Nor consider that it is expedient for us, that one man should die for the people, and that the whole nation perish not.
