The centurion

A centurion was a Roman army officer over about a hundred soldiers. This Gentile soldier loved the Jewish people and had built them a synagogue. When his servant lay sick, he asked Jesus to heal him, but humbly said he was not worthy to have Jesus in his house. He believed Jesus only had to speak the word.

The centurion answered and said, Lord, I am not worthy that thou shouldest come under my roof: but speak the word only, and my servant shall be healed.
