David
A man after God's own heart
1 Samuel 13:14
David was the youngest son of Jesse of Bethlehem, out keeping the sheep when Samuel came to anoint a king. Nobody expected God to choose him, but the LORD looks on the heart. He became Israel's greatest king and wrote many of the Psalms. The New Testament calls Jesus "the son of David" (Matthew 1:1), because the promised Saviour came from his family.
Then Samuel took the horn of oil, and anointed him in the midst of his brethren: and the Spirit of the LORD came upon David from that day forward. So Samuel rose up, and went to Ramah.
