Hannah

Hannah longed for a child, but she had none, and her rival Peninnah provoked her year after year. Hannah did not turn bitter against God. She took her sorrow to Him in prayer and promised to give her son back to the LORD. God answered, and she named the boy Samuel, "Because I have asked him of the LORD" (1 Samuel 1:20).

For this child I prayed; and the LORD hath given me my petition which I asked of him:
