Melchizedek

King of Salem, priest of the most high God

Genesis 14:18

He appears in three verses of Genesis and is gone. Yet a Psalm and three chapters of Hebrews speak of him. Hebrews tells us his name is "by interpretation King of righteousness" (Hebrews 7:2) and that King of Salem means "King of peace" (Hebrews 7:2). Abraham, the man who had the promises, gave him tithes and was blessed by him.

And Melchizedek king of Salem brought forth bread and wine: and he was the priest of the most high God.
